Carrier Air Groups - HMS Eagle. The paying-off of Britain's carriers one by one, and the disbandment of their air squadrons, resemble the solemn minute guns in the funeral rites of the Royal Navy's fixed-wing air arm. The profiles of the two carriers Eagle, and of the squadrons which will disband with the paying-off of the last of them, are therefore timely funeral orations. Inevitably they will be followed by a period of mourning.
