Nicholas Roerich, after studying law and attending the Academy of Art, developed a passionate interest in archaeology, his contribution to which was acknowledged when he became a lecturer at the Russian Archaeological Society in 1900. Prolific creator of over 7,000 paintings, Roerich belonged to the great creative art movement that took place in Russia before the Bolshevik Revolution.
